The Kano State Government has banned people of opposite genders from using the same commercial tricycles across the state statrting from January 2020 .
This was revealed on Wednesday by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje at the closing ceremony of the 77th annual Islamic Vacation Course (IVC) organized by Zone A of the Muslim Society of Nigeria (MSSN) at the University of Bayero, Kano.
Mr. Ganduje, represented by Hisbah Board Commander General Harun Ibn-Sina, said the government of the state is committed to upholding Islamic principles.
A former governor of Kano, Ibrahim Shekarau, introduced commercial tricycles, popularly known as' A daidaita sahu' in Kano, as a means of transport only for women.
This was after the government of Mr Shekarau prohibited the transportation of women by commercial motorcyclists.
However, since Mr Shekarau's exit as governor has allowed tricycles to carry people of both sexes, a move that has now been said by the state government will be changed.
