That's My Father - A Poem By Lawal Mohammed (lawwee)

That's My Father - A Poem By Lawal Mohammed (lawwee)

In a society so tight and bleak
The rich is strong and the poor is weak
A simple rule that guided every man's week
A society where lots of rumours would always leak
The rich would stay strong and the weak would stay meek

She hugged him gently with tears in her eyes
Each drop was beautiful like little crystals of ice
The nine months was over and it sure felt nice
And now she wondered if a bag of rice
Was worth it and would suffice

Now a fine teenager, just yesterday's new born
He studied hard and planted his corn
He knew his roots and concluded it was his turn
She looked at him and wished he had more fun
He would strive hard as long as his flames continued to burn

The real world wasn't any easy
Its brutality was nothing but crazy
His mind was tired and he was always dizzy
Moving around from door to door seemed to be his only busy
But he wasn't done yet, no time to groan and be lazy

His persistence finally paid off big time
He made  his family and earned his dime
He smiled and thought of his actions during his prime
He was glad and had concluded with time
That life was truly sweet only after you have tasted its lime

THAT'S MY FATHER
The man who deemed failure as a crime
