Escaped Prison Inmate In Plateau State Re-Arrested By Military Taskforce |
The Special Task Force, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), tasked with maintaining peace in Plateau, Southern Kaduna, and some areas of Bauchi State, has rearrested another inmate who had fled.
On 23 July, six infamous inmates escaped from Plateau State's Barkin Ladi LGA. A convoy of correctional officials carrying 14 suspects charged with crimes ranging from murder to kidnapping and rape, was targeted by unknown gunmen in Barkin Ladi near Plateau High Court, suspected to be herdsmen. During the attack six of the notorious inmates escaped.
Following a manhunt operation launched earlier, the military task force rearrested one of the escapees, Mohammed Ibrahim, and has since handed him over to the state's Nigerian Correctional Service.
Task Force spokeswoman Major Shittu Ibrahim announced another inmate's re-arrest. Ibrahim said, confirming to newspeakers.
“Troops of Operation Safe Haven deployed at Bisichi Area Command of Barkin Ladi Plateau State have rearrested another escaped Prisoner, Mallam Adam Yusuf, one of the 6 notorious inmates that escaped at High Court Barkin Ladi.
The latest arrest by the troops was made in an abandoned house at Bisichi Village of Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau State at about 15:30 hours today 18 August 2020.
The 19-year-old inmate has confessed that he was among the escapees. It is pertinent to stress that concerted efforts are ongoing to re-arrest the remaining.”
