The Springtime Development Foundation (SDF) and the Veronica Adeleke Empowerment Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs, have provided over 500 women in Osun State with practical domestic farming and business training.
The historic project, conducted at the SDF headquarters in Ede, aimed to teach women how to farm conveniently in their own compounds while also developing small-scale business skills to supplement their home income.
Speaking to reporters at the event, Hon. Ayobola Awolowo, Commissioner for Women, Children, and Social Affairs, praised Governor Ademola Adeleke's commitment to uplifting women, describing the project as a clear demonstration of the governor's vision for inclusive growth and grassroots empowerment.
As part of the empowerment package, the state government also awarded each beneficiary with a N50,000 grant to help them put their new skills to use and launch their businesses.
According to her, women taught under the program would be able to maintain their families and contribute to Osun's economy without relying excessively on outside assistance. "This initiative is about independence and dignity for women," she stated.
Hon. Mrs. Dada Bukola, Chairperson of Atakumosa West, who also commended the initiative said the governor has shown true dedication to the welfare of Osun people. She highlighted that empowering women with skills that can stand the test of time is one of the most impactful investments in society.
In her separate remarks, Mrs. Aroke Oluwakemi, wife of the Ife South Local Government Chairman, described the programme as a lifeline for many women with little or no resources. She stressed that the training and financial support would serve as a solid foundation for small businesses and household resilience.
“This project is a real backup for women, especially those who had nothing doing before now. It gives them an opportunity to create something for themselves and their families,” she said.
The training transformed the lives of beneficiaries such as Adeyeni Aderonke Deborah of Ilesa West. She conveyed her deep gratitude to Governor Adeleke and the organisers, stating that the programme had opened the way to self-sufficiency.
"With this training, I can now farm in my compound and feed my family. "I won't have to rely on others for survival anymore," she said, expressing the fresh hope and confidence felt by hundreds of women around Osun.
