INEC Confirms PDP Not on Ballot for Osun Governorship Election

 The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State has announced that fourteen political parties have successfully met the requirements to participate in the forthcoming Osun State Governorship Election, confirming that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not among the qualified parties.

In a statement released by the Commission, INEC disclosed that following the conclusion of party primaries and the deadline for the upload of candidates’ names and particulars, only 14 political parties complied with the stipulated guidelines within the approved timeframe.

According to the Commission, the political parties that validly uploaded the names and particulars of their governorship candidates and running mates are: A, AA, AAC, ADC, ADP, APGA, APC, APM, APP, BP, NNPP, PRP, YPP, and ZLP.

INEC stated that in line with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and item 4 of the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the election, it has published the personal particulars (Form EC9) of all candidates and their deputies.

The Commission further announced that copies of each candidate’s Form EC9, alongside their academic credentials and other submitted documents, will be displayed at the INEC State Office and across all 30 Local Government Area offices, as well as the Area Office in Osun State, beginning Monday, February 16, 2026.

Political parties, candidates, and members of the public have been advised to inspect the published documents as provided by law.

INEC clarified that only the 14 political parties listed, having fulfilled constitutional and regulatory requirements within the prescribed period, will participate in the upcoming governorship poll — effectively confirming that the PDP will not field a candidate in the election.

The Commission, under the leadership of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, reassured stakeholders of its commitment to transparency, professionalism, and credible elections in line with democratic best practices.

INEC urged political parties and the public to continue supporting the Commission in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.
