Former Manchester United legend, Patrice Evra has reignited his long-standing rivalry with Arsenal following the club’s painful defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League final.
Manchester United icon Patrice Evra has once again turned his attention toward Arsenal, using their latest European heartbreak against them after the club’s loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League final.
The former left-back shared a video on social media showing the Champions League trophy while MC Hammer’s classic hit "U Can't Touch This" played in the background, a clear jab aimed at Arsenal’s continued struggle to win European silverware.
Mikel Arteta’s side, reached the final this season but fell short at the final hurdle after losing 4-3 on penalties to the French champions. During regulation time, Kai Havertz put Arsenal ahead before Ousmane Dembélé restored parity from the penalty spot for PSG.
The match ultimately went to a penalty shootout, where despite Nuno Mendes seeing his attempt saved by David Raya, Arsenal players Eberechi Eze and Gabriel Magalhães both failed to convert their spot-kicks, allowing PSG to secure back-to-back UEFA Champions League titles.
In his social media post, Evra was seen celebrating while dancing to the song, playfully suggesting that although Arsenal may have lifted the Premier League trophy, their wait for a Champions League triumph could extend for “another 50 years,” in his usual teasing manner.
This is not the first occasion Evra has mocked Arsenal’s European disappointment.
After their semifinal elimination to PSG in the previous season, he posted a similar sarcastic video, stating that he felt sorry for Arsenal while insisting the issue was not with the squad or manager, but rather with supporters whom he claimed tend to believe in outcomes that never come to pass.
He further joked that he would hesitate to conduct business with an Arsenal supporter because of that perceived mindset, before quickly clarifying that his comments were made in good humor and that he holds respect and affection for the club.
During his playing career, Evra faced Arsenal on 21 different occasions, winning 13 of those matches and losing only four, while also recording a goal and an assist against them in Premier League encounters while playing for Manchester United.
