The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), has condemned the recent wave of political violence across the state, describing the incidents as disturbing and unacceptable in a democratic society.
In a personal statement issued on Tuesday, Oyebamiji expressed sympathy for victims who suffered injuries, losses and trauma as a result of the attacks reported in different parts of the state.
He said his thoughts and prayers were with the affected individuals and their families, stressing that no political ambition should be pursued at the expense of human lives.
"Democracy is a contest of ideas, vision and service to the people. There is no political office, including the office of Governor, that is worth the blood of any human being," he stated.
The APC candidate alleged that supporters of his party had been targeted in several locations across Osun State. He cited incidents in Owode-Ede, where campaign buses were reportedly vandalised, and in Ifeland, where APC members participating in a Walk-to-Live rally were allegedly attacked by hoodlums.
Oyebamiji also referenced reports of assaults on APC supporters in Osogbo, including claims that some individuals were shot during the attacks. However, he noted that the full extent of the injuries and any possible fatalities had not been independently verified.
While condemning violence from any quarter, Oyebamiji said those seeking political power through intimidation and lawlessness had no place in a democratic system.
He expressed concern over what he described as a growing atmosphere of insecurity, intimidation and political intolerance in the state, urging relevant authorities to ensure the protection of lives and property.
The APC governorship candidate called on residents and party supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding despite alleged provocations, urging them to continue believing in the democratic process.
Looking ahead to the November 27 governorship election, Oyebamiji promised that security and public safety would be among the top priorities of his administration if elected.
According to him, his government would maintain zero tolerance for criminality, uphold the rule of law and ensure that citizens can freely exercise their democratic rights without fear of harassment or violence.
He further pledged to restore public confidence in governance and lead a government focused on the welfare, security, prosperity and peace of the people of Osun State.
