The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just-concluded Osun State governorship election, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, has called for calm and peaceful conduct among his supporters following the outcome of the election.
Oyebamiji, in a statement dated August 17, 2026, thanked APC members, leaders, supporters, volunteers and voters who supported his candidacy throughout the election campaign.
He said although the outcome was not what his campaign had hoped for, he respected the position of the electoral umpire and supported the APC's decision to review the election results.
“Although, we had hoped for a different outcome in the election, in the meantime, we respect the position of the electoral umpire and I totally support the decision of our party in its ongoing review of the outcome of the election,” he said.
The former commissioner also expressed appreciation to voters who entrusted him with their support, as well as party members and volunteers who worked across the state during the campaign.
According to him, the conclusion of the election should not mark the end of efforts towards the development of Osun State.
He said, “The campaign has come to an end and the election is over, but the values and causes we championed are alive. We would continue to work for effective, inclusive and rapid development of our dear Osun.”
Oyebamiji urged his supporters to remain engaged in their communities, continue organising and work for the collective interest of the state.
However, he raised concerns over what he described as an alleged increase in hostility and violence against APC members and supporters following the election.
He claimed that violent attacks witnessed during the build-up to the election had “taken another dimension in the last 24 hours.”
Oyebamiji consequently appealed to the Osun State Government, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to intervene and prevent further incidents.
“Consequently, I urge the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to intervene and arrest this ugly trend without delay,” he stated.
While raising the alarm, the APC candidate also urged his supporters to remain peaceful and calm as they go about their daily activities in the post-election period.
He said his supporters should remain vigilant while avoiding actions capable of escalating tensions in the state.
Oyebamiji concluded by expressing pride in the campaign his team ran and gratitude to those who supported his candidacy.
“I remain proud of the campaign we ran and grateful for the confidence you reposed in me,” he said.
He also wished the people of Osun State and Nigeria well, saying: “God bless you all. God bless Osun State. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
