The Executive Director of the Insight Initiative for Community and Social Development, Jare Tiamiyu, has celebrated the second anniversary of the Osun Open Local Government Project (OsunOpenLG), describing the initiative as a major force in promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in local governance across Osun State.
In a press statement issued to commemorate the milestone, Tiamiyu said the project, officially launched on May 24, 2024, with the support of the Nigeria Youth Futures Fund, was established to strengthen openness and improve governance systems at the grassroots level.
According to him, the project has, over the last two years, expanded conversations around transparency and accountability in local government administration by improving citizens’ access to information and encouraging active civic participation in governance processes.
He noted that one of the major achievements recorded under the initiative is the development of a pioneering Artificial Intelligence-powered chatbot focused on open governance issues at the local government level in Nigeria.
Tiamiyu described the innovation as a significant breakthrough in the use of technology to improve citizens’ access to governance information, enhance public engagement, and simplify interactions around local government accountability mechanisms.
“By introducing this initiative, OsunOpenLG has continued to demonstrate the possibilities that exist at the intersection of technology, civic participation, and governance reform,” the statement read.
The organisation further stated that the anniversary is not only an opportunity to celebrate achievements recorded so far but also a moment to reflect on the future of grassroots governance reforms and the next phase of the project.
The statement added that the anniversary edition would highlight the successes recorded over the years while unveiling future plans aimed at deepening impact and expanding interventions across local government systems.
Reaffirming its commitment to grassroots development, the organisation maintained that sustainable development can only thrive in an environment where governance is transparent, inclusive, participatory, and accountable.
OsunOpenLG also pledged to continue advancing innovative solutions, strengthening partnerships, and driving initiatives that empower citizens and improve governance systems at the local government level.
