SMART INFORMATION FOR ALL UNILORITES
Smart Unilorites,
I am OLABODE, Stephen Opeyemi, a 400 level student of the department of Computer
Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, University of Ilorin, Ilorin. Having satisfied the provision of the electoral laws, I consider it as a great honour and privilege to declare my intention to serve as the Public Relations Officer, University of Ilorin Students’ Union 2021/2022 Academic Session. As a responsible and proactive Unilorite who has diligently served in different capacities, my experience and commitment shall set me on the right path in delivering my constitutional duties and other responsibilities allotted to my office if elected.
MY MANIFESTO
Student Unionism enhances the work of the school authorities and facilitates effective communication between them and the students. It is expedient that the use of communication channels will make it easier for students to access official information. Hence, I present, the SMART INFORMATION agenda.
MY VISION
The vision is aimed at generating easily accessible and actionable information with the development of strategies that will not only result in more transparency and integrity on the part of the union, but also a greater level of congress involvement in union affairs.
MY MISSION
The SMART INFORMATION agenda shall coordinate, develop, and maintain the Student Union social media presence and further promote student participation in the steering of the union.
Furthermore, I have outlined the following to compliment the mission and vision of the SMART INFORMATION agenda for the betterment of our great Union:
1. Students’ Union Press Conference
2. Students’ Union Monthly e-Bulletin
3. Upgrading of the Union’s Website
4. Students’ Union Media Team
5. Social Media
6. Public Campaigns
STUDENTS’ UNION PRESS CONFERENCE
In order to create a good level of interaction between the officials and members of the union, I will facilitate a press conference where the union officials will present their blueprint for the administration to members and journalists. Also, we will discuss ways the union can serve its members better as well as salient issues affecting the members and way forward.
STUDENTS’ UNION MONTHLY E-BULLETIN
As it was in the past, the production of the Students’ Union Bulletin will come back to life to promote ethical journalism, and even getting more media stance as a union. In order not to burden the union with too much financial obligations, the dissemination of this bulletin will be online (e-bulletin) via the union’s website and social media platforms. This bulletin will encompass all happenings on campus in a monthly cycle and it will circulate across other tertiary institutions to promote our union as a brand.
UPGRADING OF THE UNION’S WEBSITE
I will do my best to increase the website’s traffic with the introduction of new features and more functions. In addition to the normal posting of press release, the website will serve as a platform for yearly association’s registration, other union registrations and applications, advertising of products, promotion of articles as well as other numerable functions. This will make the website to be more productive.
STUDENTS’ UNION MEDIA TEAMS
For effective communication, there will be the establishment of a wide and well-structured Public Relation media team of the Union which will work with the office of the Public Relations Officer; the SU Central Media Team of the union and SU Faculty Media Teams. The central team will comprise of all faculty public relations officers, publicists, bloggers and journalists. Under my supervision, this team will be responsible for release of the union’s press statements, public campaigns, articles and magazine. While the media team in each faculty will comprise of departmental public relations officers, class reps and publicists. This structure will be put in place upon assumption in office in order to have proper channel for information and communication between the union and its members.
SOCIAL MEDIA
Social media is a major technological tool used in unfolding events in expeditiously changing global environment. I will make use of the social media to build and sustain the good image of our union, also to promote the understanding of, and increase the level of students’ participation in union affairs.
Communication is a two-away affair in which information is being SENT and also RECEIVED via well-structured media. As someone who believes in an all-inclusive leadership style, I will make use of the social media to facilitate an active feedback system where UNILORITES can communicate their feeling directly to the union executives from anywhere, at any time amongst others. These will also be a means to showcase our inventiveness and achievement.
PUBLIC CAMPAIGNS
In order to get Unilorites empowered against proliferating and emerging societal and environment issues, I will coordinate periodic media and physical campaigns. This will no doubt encourage emotional stability and sanity amongst our colleagues. Some of the issues to be addressed include;
RAPE, FAKE NEWS, SEX FOR GRADE, POLLUTION, CULTISM etc.
