We Were Mad– Luka Modric Explains How Real Madrid Overcame Chelsea With 5-4

Luka Modric, the Real Madrid midfield maestro, stated that he thought his team was "dead" after losing 3-0 to Chelsea at the Bernabeu.

The Croatian, on the other hand, claimed that fan support, manager Carlo Ancelotti's superb replacements, and their expertise in Europe's top league provided them an advantage against Chelsea.

Chelsea took a 3-0 lead in the Spanish capital and was on their way to the Champions League semi-finals, leading 4-3 on aggregate. Mason Mount, Rudiger, and Timo Werner all scored.

After Luka Modric's magnificent assist, which Rodrygo fired in to send the contest to extra-time, Carlo Ancelotti's side came back into the game.

Chelsea's dreams were dashed when Karim Benzema headed home for a 5-4 aggregate victory.

"It's impossible to put into words how incredible this game was," Modric said afterward.

"We were dead until we scored the goal." I can't say we performed poorly, but they took advantage of their opportunities and scored three goals.

"We never gave up hope, never gave up battling, and we showed tremendous courage." This venue, as well as the fans, were really accommodating to us. They were there to cheer us on when we were down 3-0. That gave us even greater confidence in our ability to turn things around

"I believe the master [Ancelotti] made significant improvements, and they were successful. Experience plays a vital role in this sport, and it helped us a little today.

“We knew it would be tough, but in the end, we showed great character, desire, and togetherness. It’s a defeat that is very sweet.”
