Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the former governor of Abia State, has indicated that he will not run for president in 2023.
On Monday afternoon, Kalu, who is also the Chief Whip of the 9th Senate, made the news.
"I congratulate Senator Ahmad Lawan, my friend, old roommate, and boss, on his decision to run for President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under our wonderful party, the All Progressives Congress (APC)," he said. "I am overjoyed because he is from the North East, which, together with the South East, has yet to produce a Nigerian president," Kalu stated.
"I have always maintained an unequivocal position that the next president of Nigeria, following President Muhammadu Buhari, should come from the South East or the North East for the sake of justice, equity, and fairness in our country."
I've also informed Nigerians that I'll run for president only if the two major political parties (APC and PDP) allocate seats in the South East. That is why I am disappointed in our southern brothers who preach about fairness and equity but have zero tolerance for the same in the South.
"In the event that a South Easterner is not elected President of Nigeria in 2023, I fully support a North Easterner." This is because it would be the most representative of the equity, fairness, and justice that everyone is discussing. It also implies that justice is on its way to the Southeast.
"However, since there is no zoning and the contest is open to all Nigerians, I officially withdraw from the presidential race in 2023," he said. I've also chosen a ticket to run for the Senatorial Zone of Abia North in order to finish the fantastic work I started in Abia North."
I urge all my friends , allies and supporters in the APC to toe the line of justice by supporting Senator Ahmad Lawan , a North Easterner for the presidential ticket of the APC.
