Michigan Republican Governor Candidate Ryan Kelley Arrested For Capitol Riot Role

 A Republican candidate for governor of Michigan and staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump was charged with misdemeanors on Thursday for his role in a post-election riot at the United States Capitol in 2021, aggravating an already tumultuous GOP primary.

Ryan Kelley, 40, was detained in western Michigan and appeared in federal court in Grand Rapids for a brief hearing, after which he was freed without posting bail. Kelley's detention was not requested by the government.

His arrest happened only hours before a highly anticipated public hearing by the House committee probing the insurgency, which will feature never-before-seen video, audio, and a slew of other evidence illustrating the terrible violence that erupted on Jan. 6, 2021.
