The struggle for Sievierodonetsk, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky, is a turning point in what is becoming an attrition war in eastern Ukraine. "Our Donbas' fate is being decided there," he stated.
The Russians have outgunned Ukraine's military. As gunfire echoes from violent street-by-street warfare, the city is on fire. Russia will control all of Luhansk, one of two provinces in the Donbas region, if Sievierodonetsk and its sister city Lysychansk fall.

Ukraine's military minister stated that his country "desperately needs heavy weapons, and they need to be delivered quickly."
As Russian artillery continues to demolish the metropolises in the east, both sides are still fighting for control of what Zelensky has dubbed "dead cities."
