THE STUDENT UNION PRESS CONFERENCE (THE NETWORK)

An Avenue To Engage The University Management Union Official And All Modern Unilorite

The student union press conference which was organized by the student union executives led by Comrade Faji oluwatobiloba Samuel tagged ‘The Network’ is a program aimed at student interacting with the university management and union executives.

The program was held at the University main auditorium and has in attendance Prof Omotosho, DVC Academics who represents the Vice Chancellor Professor Wahab Egbewole, Prof. M.T. Yakubu, Dean STUDENT Affairs Unit, Dr. Ajewole, Subdean Student Affairs Unit PS, Dr. Alabi, Subdean Student Affairs Unit College and Mrs. Fatoki from CBT as well as the Student Union Executives and students from the University. 

The Vice Chancellor in his remark addresses the issues of transportation on campus, he said all hand had been on deck to make sure the issues is resolved. 

"The school management are planning to open another school park near the school gate to make the transportation a bit easier for the student". 

He said one of the major causes of the transportation issues is the fly over bridge construction currently going on in Tanke road and we have seek assistance from the state government and it would take effect soon".

While answering questions from students, the Vice Chancellor also noted that the increment in GSE fee is necessitated due to the level of inflation in the country.

"The money is to buy some necessary materials for the course and we all know that prices have gone out through the roof, we hope that we have better days in the country" He said. 

Also answering question on the University portal glitch, the Vice Chancellor said he and his team were in office on Sunday to fashion out how the problem will be resolved. "Efforts is very much in progress to restore it, students should monitor their portals and if at the end of the day the problem still persists, then you can proceed to the COMSIT. 

The Dean, Student Affairs Unit Prof. M.T. Yakubu also said on the transportation issues that the management is working on bringing in more shuttle on campus and very soon we would be seeing them. 

"We're also making contact to increase the fleet of busses that are coming into the school, you'll see that there are additional korope around plying the route different from the ones we have on ground before" 

We are also in touch with some other campus shuttle services, you all will soon see some new cars plying the route" He added. 

Answering question on accommodation for returning students, the Dean said "the accommodation facilities owned by the school cannot accommodate all students, we have done the balloting for the freshers and the returning students and all the bed space have been filled"

He urged those that were unable to get hostel to try and be good wherever they stays and noted that the management is constantly in contact with private developers to come around and build more hostels in the campus. 

DR. Alabi, Subdean Student Affairs Unit College while answering question on how students can get Covid-19 vaccine said there is a molecular lab situated at the University teaching hospital where students can have medical tests. 

"Students will have to go to ministry of health to get Covid-19 vaccine. We used to have a center here but because the number of people coming for the test have reduced drastically and we need a lot of health workers to man that place, the center has been collapsed by the ministry of health" he said. 

The representative of the Computer Based Test (CBT), Mrs. Fatoki, urged students of the university to come early during examination and to always ask questions whenever they are using the computers in the CBT and not assume they can do everything themselves so as to avoid failing their examinations.

In his own remark, the Student Union President, FAAJI Oluwatobiloba Samuel also said a Tech advancement center will be built and several Tech summit will be organized in partnership with necessary shareholders. 

He further noted that the Union will champion a business and an economic summit which will translate into real employment as it is done in the 1960s, a community where employers meet students and interact to build a community of successful students and smart entrepreneurs
