The Osun State Government has debunked reports suggesting that Governor Ademola Adeleke is planning to defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the claim as “a calculated attempt” by political opponents to cause confusion in the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the government stressed that Adeleke remains fully committed to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and has no intention of joining the ADC or any other political party.
The statement read, “We want to reiterate for the umpteenth time that Governor Adeleke remains committed to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and has no plan whatsoever to join the ADC or any party for that matter.”
According to the release, Governor Adeleke’s main focus is on “the continued delivery of dividends of democracy to Osun people who resoundingly gave him their mandates three years ago.”
It added that the Governor, alongside PDP leaders, is concentrating efforts on strengthening party structures for the ongoing voter registration exercise ahead of the 2026 elections.
The statement also suggested that the rumours were being sponsored by those unsettled by Adeleke’s growing popularity across the state. “Those behind the latest round of misinformation are trying to latch on the huge goodwill that Governor Adeleke enjoys with Osun people to sway support,” it noted.
Rasheed urged members of the public to disregard any report linking the Governor with defection, urging PDP supporters instead to mobilise votes for his re-election bid.
“As a man of the people, Governor Adeleke recognises the overwhelming goodwill and confidence that Osun people have in the PDP and his leadership. His Excellency is not and will not go against the will of the people,” the statement added.
