Senior Special Assistant to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on Renewable Energy, Mr. Funmiso Babarinde, has said the achievements recorded by the current administration in infrastructure, renewable energy, workers’ welfare, and rural development justify the governor’s quest for a second term in office.
Speaking during the 11th Media Parley organized by the Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA) in Osogbo, Babarinde maintained that Governor Adeleke has demonstrated a commitment to development across different sectors and should be given more time to consolidate ongoing projects and initiate new ones.
He pointed to the administration’s growing investment in renewable energy, revealing that residents of Ayetoro Village in Ife South Local Government Area are already enjoying electricity through a solar-powered mini-grid established by the state government. According to him, the project serves as a model for plans to extend clean energy access to other off-grid communities in Osun.
Babarinde explained that funding constraints have slowed the expansion of the initiative, noting that at least 19 communities across the state remain without access to the national grid. He expressed optimism that additional resources would enable the government to replicate the Ayetoro project in other underserved areas.
Highlighting achievements of the Office of Climate Change and Renewable Energy, the governor’s aide disclosed that over 10,000 solar lamps have been distributed to rural residents, particularly schoolchildren, to support learning activities after sunset. He added that the state’s efforts in environmental sustainability and clean energy contributed to Osun’s rise from 30th to 6th position in the national Subnational Climate Governance Performance Ranking.
Turning to infrastructure and urban development, Babarinde dismissed claims that government projects are concentrated in Ede, insisting that major interventions have been spread across the state. He cited road projects and other infrastructure developments in Osogbo, Ile-Ife, Ilesa, Ila, Iwo, Edun-Abon, Tonkere, and several other communities as evidence of an inclusive development agenda
He further explained that urban development involves more than road construction, stressing the importance of proper planning, drainage systems, electricity infrastructure, environmental protection, and compliance with approved building standards. According to him, many Osun communities evolved from unplanned settlements, making redevelopment a challenging but necessary task.
The governor’s aide also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve residential layouts and public infrastructure in areas such as Oroki Estate, Oranmiyan Housing Estate, Elizabeth Housing Estate, and Government Reserved Areas across the state, emphasizing the need to preserve designated green areas for sustainable urban growth.
On the political front, Babarinde predicted significant realignments ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election, arguing that Governor Adeleke’s performance has continued to attract support from across the political divide. He claimed that growing acceptance of the administration’s programmes has weakened opposition forces and strengthened support for continuity in governance.
He therefore urged residents of Osun State to support Governor Adeleke’s re-election bid, contending that it would be unfair to compare an administration that has spent less than four years in office with governments that had much longer tenures. According to him, the foundation already laid by the current government provides a strong basis for accelerated development if given another mandate.
