The Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State Council, Olalekan Akindoju, has reportedly gone missing following a police operation at his residence in Osogbo on Thursday morning.
It was gathered that armed police officers stormed Akindoju’s apartment in the early hours of the day and allegedly took him away to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters in Osogbo.
However, concerns heightened when efforts by colleagues, family members and union officials to ascertain his whereabouts reportedly proved unsuccessful, raising fears over his safety and current location.
The Chairman of the NUJ in Osun State, Comrade Adeyemi Aboderin, confirmed the development, describing the situation as disturbing and calling on the police authorities to provide immediate clarification.
Sources within the union disclosed that neither Akindoju’s family nor the NUJ leadership had been officially informed of the reasons for his arrest or detention.
The incident has sparked anxiety within the journalism community in the state, with journalists demanding transparency and due process from law enforcement authorities.
As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Police Command had not issued any official statement regarding the operation, while the circumstances surrounding Akindoju’s arrest and his current whereabouts remain unclear.
