The Osun State Police Command has paraded 24 suspected cultists and political thugs arrested in connection with recent violent crimes across the state, as part of ongoing efforts to restore peace and strengthen security ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Addressing journalists during a press briefing on Sunday, June 29, 2026, at the Command Headquarters, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, mnips, said the arrests followed intensified operations targeting cultism, political violence, and other criminal activities threatening public safety.
The Police Commissioner appreciated members of the media and other stakeholders for their continued support and collaboration in the fight against crime, noting that such partnerships have contributed significantly to the Command's operational successes.
According to him, the Command remains concerned about the recent wave of cult-related killings and acts of thuggery in some parts of the state, stressing that some of the incidents have been given political interpretations. He, however, assured residents that the police remain focused on dealing with criminality irrespective of political affiliations.
CP Gotan disclosed that the Command has arrested several suspects allegedly linked to the recent violent incidents, adding that investigations are ongoing to ensure all those involved are brought to justice.
The suspects paraded by the Command are: Kareem Saheed, also known as "Tanfiani"; Oyeladun Muideen (Male, 46), alias "Akilapa"; Ridwan Adekola (Male, 39); Mukaila Azeez (Male, 33), alias "Mikki"; Sunday Friday (Male, 26), alias "Akube"; Olamilekan Fatai (Male, 27); Tiamiyu Ismail (Male, 26); Famuyiwa Adekunle Toib (Male, 30); Ajiboye Toheed (Male, 28); Morufu Sodiq (Male, 24); Folorunsho Moshood (Male, 31); Hassan Sodiq (Male, 32); Badiru Saheed (Male, 26); Adegoke Olalekan (Male, 27); Faruk Olawale (Male, 25); Iyanuoluwa Sarumi (Male, 30); Afolabi Ahmed (Male, 30); Adeshina Lukman (Male, 39); Mutiu Opeyemi (Male, 32); Olushola Daniel (Male, 32); Abiola Olabode (Male, 39); Azeez Abiodun (Male, 32); Babatunde Kehinde (Male, 23); and Dada Mayowa (Male, 31).
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command's determination to rid Osun State of criminal elements and maintain a peaceful environment before, during and after the forthcoming elections.
He warned cultists, political thugs and other criminally-minded individuals to immediately desist from acts capable of disrupting public peace, stressing that anyone found violating the law would be dealt with accordingly.
CP Gotan also assured law-abiding residents that the Osun State Police Command would remain professional, neutral and non-partisan in carrying out its constitutional responsibilities, while pledging to uphold the rule of law without fear or favour.
He further appealed to residents to continue supporting the police with credible information that would aid ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and property across the state.
