Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has warned individuals he accused of sponsoring kidnapping activities in Oyo State, declaring that he would expose their identities if the security challenges persist.
Sunday Igboho, a prominent Yoruba Nation campaigner, alleged that certain politicians are providing support for kidnappers operating within Oyo State and threatened to reveal their names publicly should the criminal acts continue unabated.
The activist made the remarks on Wednesday while receiving the newly inaugurated leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), headed by Akinteye Bà bà tunde, at his residence in the Soka area of Ibadan. A video capturing his comments has since gained widespread circulation across social media platforms.
According to Igboho, he volunteered to take part in efforts aimed at securing the release of students who were abducted in Oriire Local Government Area. However, he alleged that his proposed intervention was prevented by the Oyo State Government.
He maintained that he possesses information regarding the identities of politicians allegedly supplying funds and weapons to kidnappers and cautioned that he would publicly disclose those involved if the attacks fail to stop.
Igboho further expanded his claims to the national political scene, asserting that the prevailing insecurity mirrors what he described as orchestrated attempts to render the country ungovernable for President Bola Tinubu, similar to what he alleged occurred during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
The Yoruba Nation advocate alleged that certain actors are deliberately working to undermine the Tinubu administration through the sponsorship of insecurity as well as the dissemination of coordinated misinformation campaigns intended to sway public sentiment against the president.
Speaking on the abduction of students in Oyo State, Igboho explained that he had offered to deploy members of his team into the forests to pursue and confront the kidnappers. He claimed, however, that those managing the situation informed him that the abductors had threatened to kill the students if any forceful rescue attempt involving him was undertaken.
He expressed confidence in the capabilities of his men, insisting that they could successfully drive criminal elements out of forests across the region if they were permitted to carry out such operations.
Igboho also disclosed that although his proposed security outfit, the "Iru Ekun Security Network," had reportedly received approval from the Federal Government, the Oyo State Government declined to permit the organisation to operate within the state. He described the development as a major setback to grassroots security initiatives designed to tackle criminal activities in the region.
