The Osun State Police Command has launched a high-level investigation into the shooting of the Chairman of Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government, Hon. Ashimiyu Ajibola, in what authorities described as an attempted murder.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the incident occurred at about 9:50 p.m. on June 3, 2026, in the MDS area of Osogbo when two armed men riding on a motorcycle allegedly attacked the Accord chieftain.
The command disclosed that upon receiving a distress call, tactical and conventional police teams were immediately deployed to the scene.
Police officers reportedly evacuated the victim to a medical facility for treatment, where doctors confirmed that he is in stable condition and responding positively.
The command said operational teams have since launched a manhunt for the suspects, who fled the scene after the attack.
It added that preliminary investigations led to the recovery of exhibits at the scene, which are currently undergoing forensic examination as part of efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, CP Ibrahim Gotan, condemned the attack and directed a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The police commissioner also ordered all relevant investigative units to deploy available resources to ensure the perpetrators are identified, arrested and prosecuted.
"The Command wishes to assure members of the public that no stone will be left unturned in the ongoing investigation," the statement said.
The police further urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding and provide credible information that could assist security agencies in tracking down the attackers.
The incident has heightened concerns over security in the state as investigations continue.
