Napoli sacked manager Carlo Ancelotti less than three hours after guiding them to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
The Serie A club had not won in all competitions in nine games until the 4-0 victory at Genk's home on Tuesday.
Ancelotti was in charge of Napoli in his second season, but after that poor run, they sit seventh in the league, reports BBC.
The manager and players from Napoli were in a high-profile conflict with President Aurelio de Laurentiis last month.
De Laurentiis instructed the squad to attend a week-long training camp, but all returned home to Ancelotti and his players.
Ancelotti, who won the 2009-10 Premier League and FA Cup Double with Chelsea, was linked to Arsenal and Everton's vacant manager's jobs.
Together with Liverpool legend Bob Paisley and current Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, he is one of only three managers to win three European Cups / Champions Leagues.
At AC Milan and Real Madrid, Ancelotti won two Champions Leagues, as well as domestic titles at Milan, Chelsea, Paris St-Germain and Bayern Munich.
