Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on Tuesday formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office in 2027 as he flagged off his re-election campaign ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.
Addressing supporters at Freedom Park in Osogbo, Adeleke said his support for the President remained unwavering, declaring that his administration and party would back Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“As we seek your votes on August 15, we also restate our endorsement of our son, father and leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027. Our support for Mr President is unshaken and total,” he said.
The governor, who addressed members and supporters of the Accord Party, said the party would be on the ballot for the forthcoming governorship election and expressed confidence of securing another term in office.
He stated, “Accord will be on the ballot; your votes will count; and I will be re-elected as your governor on August 15th.”
Adeleke said his administration was deploying all lawful means to protect its political rights and urged party members to remain steadfast.
“We will not bow to dark forces; we remain courageous and we shall again be victorious by the special grace of God,” he told the gathering.
The governor called on supporters to intensify mobilisation across the state, insisting that democracy and the rule of law must prevail.
He urged party faithful to spread what he described as the gains of his administration to every part of Osun.
On the lingering local government crisis, Adeleke congratulated residents on what he termed “victory over the local government issue” and commended elected chairmen and councillors loyal to his administration for their patience.
He said democratic means had been employed to reclaim council secretariats from what he described as impostors.
Adeleke also renewed his call on the Commissioner of Police to withdraw protection allegedly being provided to officials of the opposition party occupying council secretariats.
He accused the United Bank for Africa of collaborating with sacked council chairmen and demanded accountability over local government funds.
The governor expressed appreciation to various associations, groups and defectors who endorsed his re-election bid, saying their support reflected confidence in his administration.
“I am indeed overwhelmed with joy and happiness,” he said, assuring new members of equal opportunities within the party.
Highlighting his administration’s achievements since assuming office in 2022, Adeleke cited improvements in education, healthcare, water supply, fiscal transparency and debt reduction. He also listed ongoing investments in agriculture, digital economy, infrastructure and climate change initiatives.
According to him, Osun moved from 33rd to seventh position in the National Examinations Council, NECO, rankings between 2022 and 2025, while the state emerged first in the South-West in the primary healthcare challenge in both 2024 and 2025.
The governor said he was seeking a fresh mandate based on an updated five-point agenda covering youth and women’s welfare, infrastructure, agro-industrial development, affordable healthcare and education, as well as job creation through an improved business environment.
Adeleke concluded by urging residents to reject violence and defend their democratic rights peacefully, expressing optimism that continuity would prevail.
“We will vote. Our votes will count. We shall be victorious,” he declared.
