A reported abduction in Ibadan has sparked concern among residents after armed men allegedly kidnapped the sister of former Minister of Power and APC governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Bayo Adelabu, together with her twin sons in a brazen operation.
The woman, identified as a relative of the former minister, was reportedly taken alongside her two children by suspected gunmen in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
According to an eyewitness who spoke with an online news platform, the incident occurred on Wednesday in the Challenge area of Ibadan South West Local Government Area.
Confirming the development, one of Adelabu's media aides, Femi Awogboro, disclosed that the victims were Laide, the wife of Adelabu's younger brother, and her twin sons, Peter and Paul. He stated that they were abducted by unidentified gunmen at Elewura in the Challenge area while travelling out of the neighbourhood to connect with the expressway.
The incident has further heightened concerns over the growing wave of kidnappings and insecurity across parts of Oyo State.
Information making the rounds online revealed that on May 15, 2026, more than 40 teachers and students were reportedly kidnapped during a coordinated attack in Ahoro-Esiele, located in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The latest development also follows the abduction of an APC chieftain in Oyo State, Wale Oriade, who was reportedly kidnapped by armed men in December 2025 from his office at PJ Square Shopping Complex along Akala Expressway in Ibadan.
Witnesses to that incident had narrated how two men arrived in a blue Micra vehicle before forcefully whisking Oriade away. The manner in which the operation was carried out was described by observers as calculated and disturbing.
Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the Oyo State Police Command were ongoing as of Wednesday. Responding to an inquiry sent through the Crime Reporters Oyo platform, the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, stated that he could not independently verify the reported abduction at the time and urged journalists to await further clarification.
